Filbowler History

The history of the Filipino Tenpin Bowlers Eastern Region (Filbowler) is a testament to the enduring spirit of community, sportsmanship, and social responsibility. From its humble beginnings in the late 1980s to its current position as a recognized member of the National Sports Association under the International Bowling Federation and a competitor on the international bowling stage, Filbowler has exemplified the power of unity and dedication.

The early years of Filbowler's history can be traced back to the formation of the Friday Bowling Association of Al Khobar in 1988, where a group of Filipino bowlers, led by Dr. Inacay, came together to share their love for the sport. Despite the association being disbanded, the members' passion for bowling and camaraderie laid the foundation for the birth of Filbowler in 1999. This pivotal moment marked the beginning of a new era for Filipino bowlers in the Eastern Region of Saudi Arabia.

Under the leadership of founders Boy Tuazon, Louie Lee, and Ed Mendoza, Filbowler set out to create a close-knit community of Filipino bowlers united by their love for the sport. What started as a small group of enthusiasts evolved into a thriving club that has fostered a strong sense of camaraderie, friendship, and mutual support among its members over the past 23 years.

In addition to its focus on bowling excellence and camaraderie, Filbowler has also embraced a deep sense of social responsibility. The club has consistently demonstrated its commitment to giving back to the community, both in the Eastern Region of Saudi Arabia and in the Philippines. Filbowler's dedication to social responsibility is evident in its efforts to support distressed Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) and contribute to charitable causes.

One of the most remarkable aspects of Filbowler's history is its active involvement in philanthropic initiatives. The club has provided support to distressed OFWs, recognizing the challenges they face and offering assistance to those in need. Furthermore, Filbowler has extended its philanthropic reach to the Philippines, where it has contributed to Bantay Bata 163, a renowned child welfare program dedicated to protecting and supporting at-risk children. The club's generous contributions have helped make a positive impact on the lives of those in need, reflecting its deep commitment to social responsibility and compassion.

Filbowler's philanthropic endeavors have also extended to education through its support of the Classroom Galing sa Manggagawa Abroad (CGMA) project, a joint initiative of the Department of Education (DepEd), the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), and the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA). By providing classrooms and educational resources, Filbowler has played a vital role in improving educational opportunities for children in the Philippines, demonstrating its commitment to creating a positive impact beyond the realm of sports.

Moreover, Filbowler has not only excelled in local and regional competitions but has also made its mark on the international stage. The club has competed in prestigious events such as the World Tour and GCC Tour, showcasing the talent and passion of Filipino bowlers to the world.
